The following steps will walk you through the process of setting up the Microsoft Authenticator App on your phone to receive notifications that you will respond to for Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).
To start, click on the following link: https://aka.ms/MFASetup. You will need to sign in if you haven’t already. It will take you to the “Additional security page” below:
Under “what’s your preferred option?” select from the drop down menu “Notify me through app”:
Under "how would you like to respond?" select "Authenticator app or Token" then click "Set up Authenticator app":
The "Configure mobile app" screen will appear. (Leave this window up as you install the Microsoft Authenticator app):
For step 1, click on the correct type of phone you have. Windows Phone, Android, or iOS:
This will open a new link to the appropriate place to download Microsoft Authenticator for your phone type. Install the correct version of Microsoft Authenticator for your phone:
Once the app is installed, add an account, and select "Work or School Account".
Select scan QR code then return to the "Configure mobile app" screen on your computer, and scan the QR code with your phone. (You may need to change settings to allow Microsoft Authenticator to access the camera in settings):
(QR code example. Scan the QR code on your "Configure mobile app" screen. QR code will not have red dot)
Once you have successfully scanned the QR code, hit next on the "Configure mobile app" page:
A notification will be sent to your Microsoft Authenticator app. Respond to the notification to complete your set up.
You are now set up to receive notifications from the Microsoft Authenticator app. When you are signing into your account and are prompted to authenticate, you will respond to the notification in Microsoft Authenticator the same as you did in the last step above to approve the sign in.
